Teaching grammar EFL ESL - why is everyone so obsessed with it?

In the first video of the series for thriving EFL professionals I reflect on why students and teachers are so obsessed with English grammar. I've come up with 3-4 reasons why that might be and I try to prove that they're not completely nonsensical! They are quite reasonable and I myself was once a bit obsessed with grammar too! However, now, believe that there needs to be a shift in thinking about grammar and how we teach it and present it to students. The mindset needs to change if we want to help people achieve certain results in their language proficiency rather than just continue the tick box activity of teaching certain concepts at different levels for the sake of 'an Upper Int student needs to know conditionals'.
