It’s June, which means it’s Pride Month for the LGBTQ+ community. However, one Indonesian former police officer probably won’t be celebrating because this Central Javanese police officer of ten years said he got fired for being gay. Local police then claimed he failed to execute his duties as a police officer, which includes adhering to religious norms and codes of decency. So how do ordinary Indonesians feel about this incident and how do they perceive people in the LGBTQ community in general? We hit the streets of Jakarta to find out. The opinions expressed in this video are those of individual interviewees alone and do not reflect the views of ASIAN BOSS or the general Indonesian population. Special thanks to our Asian Boss team in Jakarta, Indonesia.
