By popular request (and originally suggested and championed by celtiberian warrior), here's my acoustic cover of The Dornishman's Wife from Game of Thrones! This was such a fun project! I always like to do my own take on things, and I enjoy when cover artists share their thinking for their interpretations, so here's mine! It goes without saying that Jerome Flynn (who played Bronn) did an incredible job with the song, singing a few excerpts of it in the Game of Thrones show. I wanted to make it into more of a standalone piece for this cover, so that was my strongest motivation behind making some adjustments. My biggest alteration was to shift the lyrics by two lines so that the melody would resolve at the end of each verse, instead of in the middle. I also wanted to add some more suspense and drama to the song and emphasize the lyrics, which I think can get lost when each verse of a song repeats the same short melody, so I shifted the third verse to a minor key and added some new chords. That way, when the song resolves happily, the melody shifts back to a cheery major key too. This was filmed in the rice fields in Hoi An, Vietnam, and is going live just a few hours before the New Year here!
