What about living abroad with a host family from a different cultural background? Is it an effective way to learn a language and can it help improve understanding between communities? In this episode, we visit an American student who is part of a US State Department programme devoted to less commonly taught languages. Regan McAllister loves learning about all aspects of Turkish life, so at the weekends Regan joins in the families' leisure time. Some 130 US students have taken part in this exchange programme in various countries since it began 2009. Many of them go on to pursue a career in foreign diplomacy.
