When Matt takes an inside look at their own personal make up kit, they’re surprised not only at the sheer volume of products they own, but the price they paid to buy them. Upon further examining why they felt the need to buy so many make up products, Matt realizes just how much they had been influenced to do so. With the rise of social media, product reviews, and celebrity beauty empires, it’s clear that the beauty industry has entered a whole new era. Valued at 532 billion USD, the beauty/ cosmetics industry is continuing to grow exponentially each year. In wanting to continue their exploration into make up and why we feel so drawn to it, Matt decides to head to Yonge and Dundas Square to ask people on the street how they feel about make up. Matt gets some interesting answers about how make up can help with confidence, creative expression, and gender affirmation, so long as we continue to stay self-aware around the media and messaging we’re receiving along the way.
