Allahabad HC allows survey of Sambhal’s Shahi Jama Masjid

The Allahabad High Court has upheld the Sambhal court’s decision to appoint an Advocate Commissioner for a survey of the Shahi Jama Masjid in Uttar Pradesh’s Sambhal district. The court dismissed the Masjid Committee’s plea challenging the survey, ruling that both the civil suit and the appointment of the Commissioner were legally valid. The case stems from a petition claiming the mosque was built in 1526 by Mughal emperor Babur after allegedly demolishing a temple. The plaintiffs had sought a site survey, which the local court approved on the same day the suit was filed. The Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) is also a party to the case.
