Grace Bowers plays 'melt your face' guitar. Like this Stevie Ray Vaughan Scuttle Buttin' jam at Chickie Wak Wah in New Orleans. She truly epitomizes rock and roll IMHO. This was not on the set list but it fit like a glove. And "Chickie Wah Wah" ? Really? Such a cozy little club with THE coolest club name EVER !!! How did we get to NOLA for this show? Well we had a @thecastellows show in Panama City Florida planned for February, and were gonna start off in New Orleans. But the show was cancelled, there was a massive snow storm in Toronto and then a plane landed upside down here!!! So no show, no trip :( Luckily everyone was nice in crediting us for the cancelled trip (Place D'Armes hotel, Preservation Hall show). I started to poke around for a new show in NOLA weeks later and I saw Grace was playing Chickie. But then WOW!!! The Castellows were playing Jazz Fest, along with PEARL JAM. EEEK!!! WHAT THE !?!?! How perfect was that? The Jazz Festival weekend 2 also had Santana, Lenny Kravitz, Joan Jett and Better Than Ezra (ya, I'm old). Before the festival weekend 2 and after Grace we also saw: 1. Melanie MacLaren and Camille Thornton (talented solo singer songwriters) at the Howlin' Wolf, 2. North Mississippi All Stars at Tipitinas (oh the licks !!!!) 3. Mahmoud Chouki at the Louisiana Music Factory (how can you play without frets like that?) 4. Preservation Hall All Stars (so cool) 5. Shawan Rice (Rice was so nice we saw her twice) 6. Smokey Greenwell (harmonica god), and 7. Shake ' Em Up Jazz Band (at the Spotted Cat) .. plus many great bands on Bourbon Street including at Fritzel's Jazz Pub. This is a short clip of what @grace__bowers does - she played an hour and ten minutes overall ... and at a REALLY WEIRD-timed show that started at 1:30 in the morning. Weird but cool. Thanks for the great show all and thanks Grace for signing my posters and pickguard - VERY much appreciated :) I'm gonna find an SG to mount that on for instant mojo. Enjoy you music lovers !!! Long live amazing rock from a young artist like this - she seemed talented way beyond her years. PS - Yes something was a bit 'off' with the original video / full show. It recorded at a low frame rate and the colour was so red (lighting was not the best there). I polished this clip a bit using VideoProc software and their Super Resolution and Frame Interpolation tools. Plus adjusted the white balance and colour in Corel Video Studio a bit - a little better though GB looks like a martian a bit a times (red light) .. OH BTW, GB is how she signed my posters and pick guard. This was the full show (sketchy video but pretty good sound): • Grace Bowers - Full Show Chickie Wah Wah, ... PPS - You know Grace switches from pick to fingers playing for different feels right? Well I noticed that Ellie Balkcom did the same in playing Place To Call Home at the jazz fest. Grace hold the pick in her palm I believe while Ellie put the pick in her mouth. You go ladies !!!
