Having just gotten the JHS colour box V2 pedal, I wanted to go ahead and do a fairly thorough video of how the preamp works on bass! I didn't get into the gain settings because that would have made this an even longer video, but I figured this could help the watcher get a pretty good idea as it is. I've seen some shorter demos of it that were through various amps and interfaces, and I wanted to do this one as clean and simple as possible. It's just my Yamaha BBP34 on the P bass pickup, tone wide open, into the JHS colour box. That's going into a scarlett solo, and then into Logic Pro X. There's a little bit of compression, but otherwise there's no EQ or modification of the sound. A quick couple notes: I did the direct signal without the pedal, with the pedal flat so you can hear the color that, well, the colour box adds. With the highs and mids, I did all the way down and then all the way up - with the lows, I could only do all the way up for the very lowest frequencies and then had to dial it back just a little bit because that amount of boosting in the low frequencies was clipping pretty much no matter what. That said, you should still be able to hear the frequencies that are being boosted and get a solid idea of how it works. At the end I boosted some lows and low mids to show a setting that I've enjoyed and have been using the past few days.
