Seeds starting can be a headache when you’re new. And one of the most common things, experts and beginners experience is mold. This mould is typically white, and looks a little bit fuzzy. Yes, it’s true. This mould is a sign of overwatering. It can also be a sign of lack of airflow. Obviously the solution right off the top is going to be waterless and keep a fan on your seedlings. But did you know that the white mould you see is completely normal. Most seeds starting mixes are harvested from forested areas. And mycelium a.k.a. mould is very commonly found in forest environments. This means you just took a bit of nature home with you when you got your potting soil. It’s nothing to be afraid of. It’s just normal biological activity that ultimately is helping in decomposition. It won’t harm your seedlings in low-dose and is completely preventable.
