Did you know the treatment varies depending on the severity? In this video we explain and demonstrate the differences between the severity of burns and how to effectively treat them. Superficial Burns or 1st Degree Burns Red skin, do not break the skin. Place under cool running water, use of burn ointments is okay since the skin is not broken, use burn dressing to cover the burn if needed. Partial Thickness or 2nd Degree Burns Appear red and blistered. Place under cool running water or submerge into sink/tub, use of burn ointments is okay since the skin is not broken, use burn dressing to wrap the burn. Full Thickness or 3rd Degree Burns Appear red, open wound, can be charred looking. If caused by hot oil the skin will appear white and waxy. Submerge in cool water, do not use ointment since it's an open wound, wrap wound with a burn dressing, and get it checked by a doctor or at the emergency department.
