Radtel RT-490, unboxing, tests and app programming

I take a look at the Radtel RT-490, a radio that has been about for a while now, it's a dual-band handheld with airband receive but can transmit over a relatively wide range of frequencies and can be programmed by both the well-known CHIRP software or over Bluetooth using a smartphone app available from Radtel's website (I could not find it in the Google Play Store) I unbox the radio, the accessories are pretty much what you'd expect, then after fitting the battery I test the power output and the spectral purity, the latter is something I have started to do now I am equipped to do so because I don't want to be putting radios on the air that are producing harmonics however for troublesome 2-metre sets I do have a bandpass filter, however this is only really for handhelds as it is rated around 2 watts continuous/5 watts at 20% duty cycle, if you want to know how clean the Radtel RT-490 is then keep watching and all will be revealed. The radio feels good and seems easy to operate, the fact it is equipped with a rotary encoder is certainly a nice touch, it reminds me of some of the Wouxun radios that also have this, it does not have the usual flashlight that many of these Chinese radios have. The Bluetooth programming is also demonstrated in this video, I use my Google Pixel 8a for this but it was tricky to get working off camera so I had installed the app on the Huawei phone that I was using for a while where it installed without much issue, I don't delve too far into the app but I can cover it in another video if there is interest enough in it, I also recommend programming the radio from scratch with CHIRP or the Radtel software as using the Bluetooth app is extremely time-consuming. Though the battery has a USB-C charging port a smart charger where you would use a USB-C to USB-C cable does not work with it, it needs a USB-A to USB-C cable, I suspect the drop-in charger may be similar but I see no need to use it if the radio's battery can be charged directly The radio is available from the usual online sources if you want to buy one #hamradio #radioequipment #radtel #144mhz #433mhz #pmr446 Help support the channel, basic level for only £0.99 or early access for an extra £2.00:    / @paulmcgeem0wnu   Chapters: 0:00 Introduction, unboxing and first look at the radio 9:39 Power output tests 12:43 Testing for harmonics and spurious emissions 23:04 Programming, brief discussion and brief demo of app programming 36:22 A brief look at the menu items in the radio 42:25 Final overview and conclusion of video
