Archeological sites of Western Bangladesh (Lakhindarer Medh, Bihar Dhap, Vasu Bihar, etc.)

Since ancient times, trade routes have led from the coast of the Bay of Bengal through Assam, Sikkim and Nepal to Tibet. Bengal, through which all these routes passed, has always been an important transit region, which was under the predominant influence of the major civilizations of South and Southeast Asia. Material artifacts, ruins, and remnants of an ancient structures are scattered throughout the area in abundance; many of these objects have become widely known to researchers only in recent times. This video provides a brief description of the six most significant archaeological sites in Western Bangladesh, mainly associated with the formation and enrooting of the Buddhist religious tradition. These are Lakhindarer Medh (লক্ষিন্দরের মেধ), Bihar Dhap (বিহার ধাপ), Vasu Bihar (ভাসু বিহার), Somapura Mahavihara (সোমপুর মহাবিহার) and Bharat Bhayna (ভরত ভায়না); the last site featured in this video is Shatgumbad Mosque (ষাটগম্বুজ মসজিদ), a relatively well-preserved structure of a much later origin, associated with the late period of the Bengal Sultanate, which ended after its conquest by Mughal Empire.
