Tahmineh's Proposal - Iranian Song

You can buy this song and the rest of my music here: https://faryafaraji.bandcamp.com/albu... A composition by Farya Faraji, vocals by my mom, lyrics by Ferdowsi, featuring melodic motifs from Iranian folk music. The lyrics to this piece are taken from Ferdowsi's Shahnameh epic poem, the national epic poem of Iran and widely considered the most important piece of Iranian literature. The scene in question refers to Tahmineh's marriage proposal to Rostam, the central hero of the Shahnameh. Rostam, the renowned warrior, visits the Kingdom of Samangan, where he is warmly greeted by the king of the realm. Upon learning of his visit, Tahmineh, the daughter of the king, decides to visit his chambers as he is sleeping. There, she offers her hand in marriage to him, and Rostam, having fallen in love at first sight, accepts. The melodic scale used for this piece is Esfahan or Isfahan, a scale which I find perfect to evoke both romance and passion. The instruments used are the kamancheh fiddle, an oud, the tanbur, which is the instrument I'm holding in the video, a qanun and a tombak providing the percussions. Lyrics translation: Once a part of night had passed, The shabahang began circling in the skies, (the shabahang here seems to be a pun, as it can either refer to a star, or a bird) Speech was made, baring hidden secrets, Softly, she opened the door, Behind the curtain, entered one moon-faced, Much like the radiant sun, full of colour and perfume, Two eyebrows like bows, two curly braids, Tall she was, like a high cypress, Before her, Rostam the lionhearted was dumbstruck, Before her, he clamoured to the creator of the World, He asked, what name is yours? What seek ye in the darkness of night? Suchlike she answered: Tahmineh I am, As they say, my heart, from sorrow is split in two, When Rostam saw this angel's face, All knowledges, he saw she possessed, He ordered, that a wise mobed come, (mobeds are Zoroastrian clergymen) Come he, that he ask permission from the father, When the news reached the King of Samangan's ears, From that happiness, his heart strongly beat, With his joy, vote and command, With goodness, he accepted their marriage.
