Why do you want to join our company? | Why do you want to work here? | How to crack this interview question? | HR interview questions There are 2 important aspects of this question: -What not to do - Don't start your answer with generic words like ‘this is the most valued company, it has world-class leadership’ or ‘the market gap of the company is XYZ dollars’. This information is already available in the public domain. They are looking for your motivation, what you benefit from this company. Focus on that. This doesn’t mean that the above points aren’t important but it’s not the ideal way to start. Consider your motivations and the benefits that you expect from this company or your new role there. -How to design the perfect answer! A good way to start is with your domain exposure, and the challenges you may face with the new role. That could be exciting for you and your interviewers. Example - you are a supply chain professional and you know that in the new company, there’s a robust supply chain. So you’ll have a lot of exposure and you’ll be learning quite a lot. And that’s domain exposure. You can highlight that and express that’s something that excites you. -Next up, you can talk about expanded roles or bigger responsibilities. This can be in any domain or area. Example - in the current company you’re leading two people. In the new role, they might expect you to lead 5 or 8 people. It’s a bigger responsibility for you. Or they might expect you to lead two verticals or a different vertical altogether. It’ll be challenging so talk more about that. Something on the lines of ‘expanded role or bigger responsibility is the key driving force to join this company’. -The most important is the culture of the company. It’s usually a tricky topic to discuss but it should not be left out. And again, using generic or cliche sentences will not give the best impression. Do your research, talk to the current employees of the organization, get first-hand information about the company’s exact culture, like the values of the company, work-life balance, hierarchy, et cetera. If in this process you find something that excites you, definitely bring that up in the interview. The interviewers will appreciate that, knowing that you have done your homework well. -With your research, you already know that the company has potential, has space for you to grow career-wise. So mentioning your wish of career progression which you aren’t able to see in your current organization. We specifically didn’t mention ‘money’ because that need not be discussed in this question.
