It took 10 years to complete their underground city, 352 casemates and 5,000 blockhouses are spread over the 142 self contained bunkers. The bombs are dropping and the Germans are advancing, France were prepared and ready, but there was one vital mistake. The line did not block the France-Belgian frontier, a fatal flaw in design, leading to the Germans outflanking the line in 1940. After the war, it became disused and derelict.
