Alctron CP540 Review [All Features in ONLY 12 Minutes]

This Alctron CP540 Compressor review will help you to decide if this is music technology you need in your music studio. This Alctron CP540 demo will go through the steps with you to give you an idea what this relatively cheap audio compressor can deliver. The Basics. This professional compressor has five filters that are switchable in the side chain. The range is 60HZ, 90HZ, 130HZ, 200 HZ, 440HZ. You can use these filters to customize the compressor to prevent frequencies from bass from triggering the compressor. There is an external side chain input on the CP540 which adds to your level of control. The result is smooth bus compression. It can be used as a mono compressor as well. It has a nice range of compression from 1:5:1 to 10:1. The Specs. According to the manufacturer the following specs apply to the C540: • Frequency Response: 20 Hz 20 KHz +/- 0.5 dB. • Sensitivity: 20 dBu maximum at 1 Khz • Input impedance: 50K Ohms (Balanced) • Output impedance: 200 Ohms (Balanced) • Noise: Less than -80 dBu • Maximum Output Level: 20 dBu • Total Harmonic Distortion: less than 0.5% at 1 KHz, +4dBu We Put it To the Test. In music production a reliable channel comp is critical. We wanted to see what the C540 had to offer a sound engineer and whether it delivered as promised. The first thing we liked about this sound compressor was the price, but you know paying less can sometimes mean just a waste of money if you do not get the processes that you need out of it. Frankly, we were not expecting a lot out of this compressor for mixing and mastering because of the low price point. Happy to say we were wrong. The Alctron CP540 sound control delivered nicely. We did not run into any issues, and found it to be an awful lot like Golden Age gear, which got us thinking, Does Alctron make the gear for Golden Age? As it turns out they do. If you are a Golden Age fan you will be a CP540 fan because they are so similar they are like use and they deliver almost identical sound. The circuitry is Neve 2254/33609 clone. These companies are always trying to pull the wool over our eyes. So, what is the major difference between the CP540 and the Neve 2254/33609 about $250! You can get the CP540 for roughly half of what you would pay for the Neve! What We Discovered. During the demo we discovered that you will have to tweak the CP540 quite a bit to get the professional polished sound you want for your mixes. There is a lot of room for improvement when it comes to simplifying setup. We did come across a couple of hiccups, but they were easily addressed with some fine tuning. Overall the experience delivered what we expected, and we could with a clear conscious recommend the CP540. What we Loved. If we had to point to one reason why this compressor is a great option, it would be the price point. It delivers a lot of punch for the price and that is good for any music studio. There are some mods that you will likely want to make on this model but for the price you can pick it apart and mod it the way you want it to be. The bottom line is you cannot find a compressor at this price that delivers what this compressor delivers, so what if you must make mods, making mods make it your own. Watch the Video.
