Micro credit is usually defined as direct lending to the poor, usually informally, to enable them to either establish or expand their micro enterprises/businesses. Young people generally possess tremendous entrepreneurial and creative skills and they should be assisted to develop their potential. In the developing world, micro entrepreneurs hardly have any access to credit and technical assistance to exploit their potential. Several programs around the world, both small and large, have demonstrated the feasibility of micro credit assistance to such tiny economic activities. Recognizing that productive employment is the key to combat poverty and social marginalization, GOs and NGOs have taken the initiative to provide credit and other facilities to youth through programs of thrift promotion and formation of credit groups. However, the demand for micro credit far exceeds the supply and many organizations are yet unaware of the credit schemes for sustainable micro enterprises. ICECD has offered INR 10 million to more than 10,000 men/women as micro credit support achieving highly successful results. Based on these experiences, ICECD has designed and conducted a number of training programs for agencies engaged in credit management. 225 national and 104 international agencies have benefited from these programs and the same is being offered to the international community this year.
