It originates at the subscapular fossa of the shoulder and inserts on the lesser tubercle of the humerus. The innervation of the subscapularis is provided by the subscapular nerve from the brachial plexus. It arises from the subscapular fossa and inserts on the lesser tubercle of the humerus. The muscle is very important for the internal rotation of the humerus in the shoulder joint. Paralysis and other functional disorders can be clinically evaluated with the belly-press test.
