In a world with limited resources and time, you have a limited number of actions to take One of these actions could be to take an AWS certification exam to boost your chances of getting a job or helping you get that raise you are looking for People often try to take the associate exams first for a couple reasons and the Solutions architect associate and sysops associate are two of these options At the surface level this could seem like an obvious decision to make and you might be thinking why is he making a video about this You might say that if you want to be a cloud sysadmin or are one take sysops administrator If you want to be on track to be an architect go for the architect Well my response to that is it isn't always that simple Before I go into more details I want to give my usual warning that AWS certifications alone will not get you a job and they are only a bonus thing that might help you get an interview. Actual experience is what gets jobs. Both of these exams cover a wide variety of topics so to see what you should take we should review what they cover In my opinion I believe you should have a core understanding of AWS before you decide which certification path you want to go down Solution architect exam covers a lot of the general cloud topics - EC2, S3, VPC, etc. You will need to know the basics and a little bit more on the core storage and compute services SysOps Admin goes into detail and nitty gritty on Logging, VPC with a focus on the hybrid cloud, Lambda, and troubleshooting various services If you like troubleshooting things and solving problems I would go for the SysOps Admin certification Another hidden reason I would go for the SysOps Admin cert is that it not nearly as contested mainly because it is harder If I was a hiring manager for some tech job and I saw two people who had equal qualifications- one with Solutions Architect Associate and the other with SysOps Admin, I would hire the Sys Ops Admin person AWS partner program accepts the solutions architect associate certification and not the sysops administrator Another deciding factor when choosing for which of these certs to go for is to see what kind of jobs are in your area and which certification matches the majority of those jobs If you are going to do both anyways, Solution Architect might be best to do first since it gives a high level look at AWS while sysops will be more hands on and practical. At the end of the day not everyone will have the same path that they will take and I can't give you the best answer for you, but I wish you the best of luck in finding your path Follow me on Instagram: / dans_ego
