Primordial American Terrorists #24: John Brown, John Wilkes Booth and "The Hanging"

This video is part of the Profiles in Terrorism series. The author of Primordial American Terrorists, Robert Riggs, is on location to narrate the hanging of John Brown. John Brown, a terrorist, became a martyr when he was hanged at Charlestown, Virginia on December 2, 1859. Author Riggs tells how a very interested spectator at the execution was a 21-year old John Wilkes Booth. At that time an aspiring actor, John Wilkes Booth went AWOL from his job at the Marshall Theater in Richmond to pretend to be a member of the Richmond Grays militia and to go to Charlestown, Virginia, to stand guard. Booth would afterwards refer, in his few political writings including his terrorist manifesto, to his admiration for Brown, even though he disagreed with Brown's views on the slaveholding republics. Key characters include: John Brown, John Wilkes Booth, Charlestown, Harpers Ferry, and terrorists generally.
