From 1594, the #Prinsenhof became the residence of the cityholders: the princes of #Nassau. The #Prinsentuin was created especially for them in 1626 with a rose garden, herb garden and beautiful berceaus (tree-overgrown path). It is one of the purest examples of a #Renaissance garden in the #Netherlands. The Prinsentuin is completely walled. Partly for this reason, it is an oasis of #peace, in the middle of the busy #city center of Groningen. The Zonnewijzerpoort provides access to the garden from the Turfsingel.
