The Sound of all Roland's 303s, Tb 303, MC 303, tb 3, tb 03. Roland TB 303 released in 1981 (Analogue). Roland MC 303 released in 1996 (digital). Roland TB-3 released in 2014 (digital) Roland TB 03 released in 2016 (digital) The Roland TB 303 was released as a bass accompany machine for lonely guitarists. Being a absolute pain to programme, guitarists were not really interested in a bass unit and also the fact it didn't really sound like a bass guitar the TB 303 would be another 1980s Roland failure (kind of). This one oscillator, mono synth would find success in the late 80s and hit it's fame in the 90s. The Roland TB 303 has a unique squelchy sound and incredibly now has it's own genre in music: ACID. You can also find a tent a Glastonbury festival dedicated to this synth. In 1996 Roland released the MC 303 which contained quite poor versions of the 303, plus the 808, 909 and many other classic Roland machines. It was quite popular in the late 90s though today the machine doesn't fetch much on the second hand market. With the love still going strong for the 303 sound, in 2014 Roland released the TB 3. This time Roland ditched the 303 look and went for an appearance that would fit with it's AIRA range using their ACB technology (still digital). It was meet with great reviews on release, but now the honeymoon period is over people/users have mixed feeling about it. In 2016, Roland then released another version of the 303 called the Roland tb 3, part of their boutique range. This time the machine would closely resemble the original in appearance. They also added a distortion/delay/reverb and gave the option to sequence painfully like the original. Only time will tell when Roland release another 303. Hopefully this time it will be analogue, but don't hold your breath.
