Q) What if I have a Mac or Linux? A) I do not have access to a mac so I can't tell you for sure. But steam should be the same or very similar across platforms so following the video should still help. Q) Can I move non steam games in this method? A) This method is for steam games only, any games you have added through other means a.k.a did not buy or register through steam can not be moved through this method. Q) Will this mean losing my saves? A) In some cases. If the game has cloud saving or you take appropriate precautions to protect your save files you will not lose them. Game save locations and protection methods are different for each game. Q) Can I take games to another PC using this method? A) No need to waste time using this method for this purpose. You can install steam to a USB or another like portable device. Steam is a self sufficient program and does not need to be installed to the program files folder to function properly. So install a copy of steam to your USB than download those games that you want to take elsewhere. Then when on another PC you can login to steam using the steam.exe on the USB and access those games at will. Q) If a game already exists should I uninstall then re-install? A) No need to do that all you need to do is find the steam game folder e.g.(C:programme files/steam/steamapps/common/thegame) move the game to wherever you please then restart steam. Steam should no longer detect the game installed, if it does then delete local content. Once the game is not detected install the game as shown to whatever drive or folder you put thegame in e.g.(external/gamefolder/thegame) but make sure you don't try to install to thegame folder you want to install to gamefolder, steam should detect existing files automatically and only download any little extras it needs. Q) If I have both an SSD and HDD will there be any performance increase from putting some of the games on the SSD and some on the HDD? A) Any games on the SSD will have a performance boost any games on the HDD will perform the same. My suggestion is put the games you play often or play multiplayer games with on the SSD so that maps and textures load in faster giving you an advantage. As for the rest just leave them on the high capacity HDD. Q) If I have my OS on an SSD as well as steam will the games boot fast? A) SSD's have very fast read/write speeds this mean they write and read data very fast No matter what data you send or request from them. So yeas everything moves faster with SSD. Q) Should I get a SSHD? A) If you really need more space with faster speed then an SSHD is avalable for the short term. But in the next 2 - 3 years SSD's with large capacities will become affordable at least at their current rate that they are lowering in price it looks that way. If you can wait then its best to wait. If not SSHD will probably give you an improvement. Q) How do I transfer steam games from one account to another? A) Still searching for a safe resolution Q) What about an external hard drive? A) Depends on what you want to do with it? 1: Play from the hard drive? -- To do this you just install steam to the hard drive as steam is self sufficient and does not need to be in a specific location to work. 2: Move games using the hard drive? -- You need to go to your steam/steamapps/common folder and copy it to the external drive. Then go to the new PC and put it in its respective position newPC/steam/steamapps/common. Then install the game through steam and it should detect existing files and only download what it needs to run the game.
