Permanent bridge shortage makes villages suffer | Bangladesh news | NewsRme

Due to the absence of a concrete bridge situated at a Dhaleswari river branch, thousands of people from seven villages situated under the Nagarpur upazila have been struggling for long period now. Three years ago, the villagers had built a bamboo bridge which is very unstable at the moment, on voluntary basis as the area was lacking a bridge any way. The villagers have been using the bridge to cross the canal. On the other side, the only road connection between the seven villages falling under Mokna union and the Upazila headquarter is the Pongbaijora-Deilla road. The students and local people are struggling enough everyday to cross the canal using the shaky bridge. The local farmers are suffering to carry their goods to the markets. The locals alleged with a great sigh that the politicians when come to ask for their votes before the elections, give them assurance of constructing the bridge but they do nothing after the elections. Although initiatives have been taken by the LGED, Local Government and Engineering Department to construct a 150 feet long bridge, there has not been any sign of development and implementation of the plan.
