In this video, I discuss how CBDCs (central bank digital currencies) can be paired with surveillance techniques, biometric data, and digital IDs by governments and corporations to imprison and control a population. I also highlight the Human Rights Foundation's new global CBDC development tracker, which provides progress updates on the roll-out of CBDCs worldwide. CBDCs will not destroy Bitcoin, but will rather massively increase demand for unstoppable censorship-resistant money like Bitcoin. Will CBDCs hurt Bitcoin by programmatically preventing capital inflows from fiat to Bitcoin? No, because it will be relatively simple to exchange your CBDC USD for physical goods, and then to trade those physical goods for Bitcoin. One will also be able to sell goods and services directly for Bitcoin, thus leading to a self-contained Bitcoin circular economy. Because Bitcoin is peer-to-peer and permission-less, no one can stop the widespread buying and selling of goods and services in Bitcoin. The government can stop 100 people, but it cannot stop 50 million people. Unlike Bitcoin, CBDCs will constantly lose purchasing power as well, since they are just another form of fiat money. So holders of CBDCs will continue to get more and more poor relative to Bitcoiners. It might just make sense to buy some Bitcoin before the digital prison of CBDCs is rolled out globally.
