The Cloudlifter CL-1 is highly respected as an inline preamp that does exactly what it says it will - adding 25dB of very clean gain. That is not what I am questioning. In the video shown in this video (link below) it clearly shows that if you speak off axis into the microphone, your microphone will somehow maintain a consistent audio level without sounding like you're speaking off axis into the microphone at all. I question this because an inline amplifier, in my mind at least, shouldn't possess the ability to change the polar pattern of a microphone or correct off axis detail loss so in this video, I'm going to test the claim that it does.
