Analyzing Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind

In celebration of 40 years of Ghibli, today I'm doing a deep-dive into the film that led to its founding: Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind (1984). This video is an exploration of the film, an explanation of themes, and looking to answer a specific question. What is this movie trying to tell us, and how is it relevant to the present day? Giant bugs, Aircraft dogfighting, and giant humanoid nuke cannons - oh my! Nausicaä's anime film was based on the manga written by Hayao Miyazaki of the same name. And some consider the manga version Miyazaki's heaviest work. Let me know what this movie says to you, and what other Ghibli films I should pick for a close-reading next! Also, definitely check out Ghibli Fest which is an annual festival that screens Ghibli films in local theaters. They've recently announced Princess Mononoke will be returning to theaters in 4k and IMAX showings.
