ABSTRACT: Polystyrene is a convenient material for food packaging, but its widespread use poses significant environmental challenges as it is non-biodegradable. To address this, our group has developed an eco-friendly product called “The Smart Spray Solution”, which is designed to dissolve polystyrene effectively. The key ingredient is limonene, a non-polar solvent that breaks down polystyrene into a liquid form. This is complemented by ethanol, a polar solvent that helps accelerate the dissolution process. Lastly, vinegar (acetic acid) lowers the pH of the solution, making it mildly acidic and enhancing its effectiveness. The method used to test this product is field studies and laboratory experiments. Currently, the product is still in the planning stage with a prototype under development. The next steps involve ensuring that the product can be produced on a larger scale and is user-friendly as well as environmentally sustainable. Together, these ingredients create an innovative and sustainable solution to manage polystyrene waste and reduce its environmental impact.
