UPDATE 14/6/16: Okay people I am fed up with wisecrackers coming here and making comments along the lines of "ololol fake gmod" or worse, "You're not supposed to load that level in Portal 2". You think you're so clever or funny, but it's just annoying. It's clearly not fake (whatever that's even supposed to mean) and obviously this map is not "supposed" to be used in Portal 2. The beauty of games like this is that you can do things you're not "supposed" to. You can experiment and learn. I found something I thought people might find interesting. If you don't, fine. But if you come up with some snide comment you think makes you sound smart, trust me, it doesn't; so just keep it to yourself. (And, for the record, I didn't start out putting Portal 1 maps in Portal 2. First I made a custom map to experiment. When I found the rocket turret didn't work I decided to make a video, and I thought a real level would make it more compelling than an empty experimental map. Guess I was wrong.) ORIGINAL: The geniuses at Valve were working on some new functionality for the rocket turret, then broke it altogether when it was cut from the game. My Portal 1 portals are red and light blue because I downloaded a skin from myaperturelabs.com. Same deal with the Black Mesa cube. How I got Portal 1 stuff in Portal 2: I have now made a simple tool to automate this procedure. You can get it at http://www.moddb.com/downloads/portal... 1. Get GCFScape at http://nemesis.thewavelength.net/inde... 2. Extract the following GCFs from the "steamapps" folder into the "steamapps\common\portal 2" Folder: "source materials.gcf" "source models.gcf" "source sounds.gcf" "source 2007 shared materials.gcf" "source 2007 shared models.gcf" "source 2007 shared sounds.gcf" "portal content.gcf" "portal english.gcf" (Or whatever language you use) 3. Delete the new "steamapps\common\portal 2\portal\resource" folder. Failure to do so may screw up your game. 4. Add the following to the "SearchPaths" section of the "steamapps\common\portal 2\portal2\gameinfo.txt" file: "Game portal Game hl2" 5. Open the Portal 2 Authoring Tools and start "Face Poser". On the File menu, click "Rebuild scenes.image". When this finishes, close Face Poser. 6. Start up ! Use the console (Press ` or ~) to load a Portal 1 map, eg. "map escape_01", as was used here.
