Their objective? Annihilate the Soviet air force by striking at over 66 airbases along the USSR and guaranteeing the air supremacy, while the Wehrmacht infiltrates and cross the border. Implementing the principles of the Blitzkrieg that defeated the Allied armies during the battle of France, the Germans achieve a phenomenal breakthrough in the USSR and penetrate the front line by more than 400 kilometers during the summer of 1941. However, despite the general confusion on the Soviet side, many points of resistance slow considerably the German advance, such as the riflemen of the Brest Fortress. Finally, the turning point: terrible rains of Autumn, blocking the roads for armored and mechanized units, give way to the harsh conditions of Russian Winter. The frontline freezes and the first Soviet counter-attacks are launched.
