Dr. Bagaria explains what recovery is like for an appendectomy, which is sometimes necessary during endometriosis excision surgery. Dr. Madhu Bagaria, MD, FACOG is board-certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology and Laparoscopic Surgery. As an expert in women's health, she has extensive experience treating pelvic pain conditions, abnormal uterine bleeding, and endometriosis. Dr. Madhu believes in listening to her patients, understanding their experiences and their individual needs, and working with them on a treatment plan that works best for their condition and lifestyle. At Pelvic Rehabilitation Medicine™, our pelvic pain specialists provide a functional, rehab approach to pelvic pain through the PRM Protocol™. When you visit one of our offices, you spend an hour with your doctor reviewing in detail your medical history and symptoms. Then, we perform an internal exam (no speculum) to evaluate your nerves and muscles. Together, we'll discuss an individual treatment plan that gets to the root cause of your pain and helps you to feel better. The best part: you can begin treatment the same day! At PRM, our mission is to decrease the time patients are suffering from pelvic pain symptoms. Today, I wanted to discuss the recovery time associated with appendectomy, which is the removal of the appendix. When you come to see an endometriosis excision surgeon, you may have heard the possibility of removal of the appendix, and then the question that arises in the minds of many of my patients is, "How does it affect my recovery?" I wanted to let you know that undergoing Appendectomy doesn't affect your recovery in any way. You will still have an outpatient procedure which means you're able to go home the same day. There's no restriction on your diet which means you're able to eat and drink the same way as a person without undergoing Appendectomy would. And it also doesn't add much to your operating room time, maybe 5 or 10 minutes extra operating room time so it avoids the risk of prolonged anesthesia.
