Lobsang Sangay: Well, you know Tibet in Chinese means 'Xizang' which means western treasure, so they do see Tibet as a treasure literally because there are lot of mineral resources... gold copper, some say uranium, 90 plus kinds of mineral resources, forest areas land wise it is huge it is one fifth of china so it has lot to gain and water resources ....the most of the major rivers in Asia flow from Tibet and also the what do you call the ice or the mountain top which is the source of water and not just water but affects the global climate as well. Lobsang Sangay: I think it is pretty simple before the occupation of Tibet by china I doubt there were many sentry posts between Tibet and India now you have battalion after battalions, infrastructure development in the borders of India and Tibet by the Chinese side. So the billions of dollars India spends on defending border is pretty clear it is humongous, it is very costly for India all that could be spent for internal development like education, health or any other welfare oriented projects that could help the citizens in India ...so yes India has huge stakes in this issue, having said so it is for Indian leaders to decide how to proceed forward. Lobsang Sangay: well I have stated so, how it is interpreted is for the Indian leaders to decide now as far as Tibetans are concerned again we always say this and we truly believe especially I being someone who is born and brought up in India we are extremely grateful to India and Indian people and all the governments which have supported us for all these years so our gratitude towards India and our debt towards Indian people is huge and for that we will remain forever grateful. Lobsang Sangay: Well like other you know citizens of India like Ladakhis or Nepalese or people from Himalayan region I am sure some Tibetans have or people of Tibetan origins have served in Indian defense forces and they have done it well I think. Lobsang Sangay: Like my late father who told me before he passed away that I should serve his holiness dalai lama that is the aspiration or hope of all the elder Tibetans and as for me I will try and do my best to fulfill their aspiration and last words of my late father. What I can do is to live up to his holiness vision of secular democratic society and his expectation that I as the elected leader become the face and spokesman for the Tibetan people and effective one which I am committed to do so.
