Having previously covered both the arcade and Amiga versions I was planning to move onto something else. But somebody enquired whether the C64 conversion could also be scanned. So here it is 👾 As per the Amiga, this was also released by Domark in 1991. It garnered an impressive 90% in Zzap!64, and was well received across all magazines scoring at least 80%. Unlike the arcade and Amiga (advanced mode), the player chooses their path to the final boss encounter. Each zone consists of 3 invader rounds, followed by either a boss, or cattle mutilation round. This amounts to 20 rounds in total, compared to over 40 for the other two. The development team clearly felt that different paths would increase replayability value. Note that each section is multiload, so there was plenty of editing, just in case anything looks suspect! Pros: ⚫ Good intro with reasonable music (see • Видео ) ⚫ Artistic backdrops ⚫ Nice boss designs ⚫ Comes with a hidden game (to be uploaded) Cons: ⚫ Bland SFX, devoid of atmosphere. No SFX for flying saucer. No music option ⚫ Invaders attack pattern is identical in every round. No variation apart from round 3 where invaders expand when shot ⚫ Invaders are identical in their respective zones. No variety ⚫ Can be difficult to see enemy missiles because of detailed backdrops ⚫ Flying saucer design never changes throughout entire game ⚫ Power-up capsules drop too slow ⚫ No indication of power-up until collected. Even then, the wording still doesn't appear ⚫ Missing Buster Laser, Fire Flower, and Hyper Laser power-ups ⚫ Should be impervious to invader missiles during Time Stop power-up ⚫ For the Arm power-up, cannot push shields up by shooting them ⚫ Cattle Mutilation rounds are identical ⚫ Boss levels present no challenge. If you get hit then move to the side, shoot the mothership, collect power-up then resume. Boring and pointless ⚫ Bosses bear no resemblance to their arcade counterpart ⚫ No continue option ⚫ No ending ⚫ £10.99 tape release In summary I consider this game bland, uninspiring, and lazy. Not an awful game per se, but disappointing and a missed opportunity.
