Now is the time to buy precious metals - Marc Faber

While trend may be hard to detect, expect inflation to rise, said Marc Faber, editor and publisher of the Gloom, Boom & Doom Report. In mid-November Faber spoke to Kitco Mining at the 2023 Precious Metals Summit Zurich event. The inflation trend will last decades, said Faber. “We are in an uptrend in inflation and uptrend in interest rates that will be interrupted from time to time by countertrend moves, such as we had in the 1970s, but the long-term trend in the next 20 to 30 years is for inflation to accelerate and for interest rates to move up," said Faber. "Although in the next six months I think that interest rates will go down, so we have to distinguish between the short-term trend and the long-term trend.” Faber noted there was a peak in commodity prices in 1980 and a peak in interest rates in ’81. said Faber. Inflation and interest rates declined, partly steered by central banks, said Faber. With inflation set to rise, Faber says now is the time to buy precious metals stocks — gold, silver, platinum — while they are trading at a discount to the physical metals. Faber also noted the rise of BRICs. “Buy foreign stocks and buy gold mining shares, but have some assets in Canada and some assets in India and some assets in Singapore and some assets in Dubai and so forth, because we have a world that is becoming divided between the wealthy, developed Western countries under the hegemony of the United States and their allies like Canada and Australia, UK and Europe, and then you have the BRICS countries that are becoming larger and have economically an increasingly large weight in the world and politically more influence,” he said.
