Apogee Instruments quantum sensors measure the photosynthetically active radiation (PAR) that reach a target from a light source. They offer a cost-effective and reliable way to monitor PAR to optimize and monitor light for plant, coral, and algae growth. VIDEO CONTENT Organisms such as plants, corals, algae, and certain bacteria need specific light to live; this light is called photosynthetically active radiation or PAR and is form 400 to 700 nanometers in the electromagnetic spectrum. Apogee quantum sensors measure the amount of PAR on a surface from a light source in micromoles per meter squared per second. Monitoring PAR is critical to optimizing specimen health and is strongly correlated to plant growth. 00:41 APPLICATIONS Apogee quantum sensors are used in greenhouses and growth chamber to monitor the output of electric lights. Plant scientists use them to measure PAR above and below plant canopies. 01:17 MODELS Apogee quantum sensors come in single sensor or multi-sensor (or line quantum) models pre-calibrated for either electric or natural sunlight. Single sensor models come with either a pigtail lead cable for connection to a datalogger, smart USB output with software for use with a computer, and attached via cable to a handheld meter with a digital output (handheld meter is also available with a single integrated sensor).
