My Satirical Monday Morning Rant - I hear this all the time. Using LinkedIn is just too much work. Keeping a LinkedIn Profile up to date is just too tedious. Ok - leave the old one out there - No worries if your next great prospect gets confused and moves on to your competitor. Growing a LinkedIn Network takes too long. OK - Hang on to those connections from your past. Everyone knows, you know everyone who is anyone, right? Don't bother looking for that next connection who could open lots of doors for you. Sharing content is too hard to do. Ok - Don't bother. Surely it won't matter the new guy from the other company is sharing content your clients find interesting. Saying Happy Birthday is just plain stupid. I hear you. That's Facebook stuff. Why should your best client or biggest prospect expect you to stop and do that for them. Besides, everyone else did it for them, including that new business developer from that other company. Using LinkedIn Search to research new companies and business owners is so hard to do. Then ignore it all. Besides, surely you already know every company out there worthy of your time. Ignore that sales guy from that start up who is knocking it out of the park because he uses LinkedIn to prospect. It's no big deal. Looking for and Engaging on content is so boring. Dude, I hear you, don't worry about it. No one really cares. Besides, your best client is busy with another conversation that some business developer from that other company. It's all a waste of time. Tagging your clients in unique posts is too hard to do. Right. We all know you can always get them to answer the phone when you call them. Unless they are at lunch with that BD who is working for your competitor who tagged them in a post last week that they enjoyed reading. Following new companies on LinkedIn seems like kids stuff. I get it. Why would you want to pay attention to your clients and those really cool businesses you wanted to sell your stuff too. And who cares that many of their posts had that other guy always congratulating them about their successes, growth and those new technologies they are using. Who has time to post content to a company page anyway? Yeah, you should keep doing what you are doing. Posting self congratulatory posts about your new gizmo, those new hires who replaced those employees who quit to work for that start up who shares stories and articles about the industry and break through technologies your clients are interested in. I don't have time to send out LinkedIn messages to my new LinkedIn Connections. They can figure out what we do by visiting our website. Yeah - I hear you. Everything a new client wants to know is on your website. Likely in that 3 year old blog post you wrote about that Chamber of Commerce award you got for sponsoring that silent auction. Who cares that new company is on LinkedIn, YouTube, Twitter, IG, or Tiktok. That stuffs just a fad. Is it all really just too much work? Isn't the whole idea of LinkedIn really to have a bold & proud Presence, then to have a thriving network rich in conversations and open discussions where we can all help each other in meaningful and relevant ways. This takes time, it's hard work. And if you don't do it, that other guy could eat your lunch.
