Dystopian Fiction | An ANIMATED study of a Subgenre

Today we’re gonna talk about Dystopian Literature and its definitions. It’s a genre of speculative fiction, a cousin of fantasy and science fiction, that deals with the consequences of a society's pursuit of a utopian ideal. It is often characterized by a society that is deeply flawed or corrupt, and in which the government or ruling class has complete control over the lives of its citizens. Dystopian societies are often depicted as being in a state of decline, where the environment is polluted or ruined, and where social and economic conditions are poor. In dystopian literature, the government or ruling class is often portrayed as being oppressive and authoritarian, and the citizens are often depicted as being oppressed and controlled. The characters in dystopian literature often struggle against the oppressive conditions of their society, seeking to overthrow the government or bring about change. Examples of dystopian literature include: -George Orwell's "1984," -Aldous Huxley's "Brave New World," -Margaret Atwood's "The Handmaid's Tale," -Ray Bradbury's "Fahrenheit 451," -Lois Lowry's "The Giver," -Suzanne Collins's "The Hunger Games."
