It was, as expected, an Oscar Piastri show in Bahrain. The young Australian led from the start before dominating the race with his McLaren MCL39-Mercedes. His was a peerless performance in what was quantifiably the best car: his team-mate, the more experienced Lando Norris, rose from P6 to finish third - but he was beaten on the road by the brilliance of Mercedes' George Russell. Ferrari finished fourth and fifth, with an excellent Charles Leclerc holding down third place for much of the distance, but Red Bull's Max Verstappen could finish only sixth after another day with brake, grip and handling imbalances.
