Scrutiny [Full Album]

My fifth album. I originally finished this on the 18th of March, 2025. A playlist including the individual songs can be found on the channel. Thank you for listening. This is my longest album by far, and turned out a lot more eccentric than I originally intended. I also think that this album has some of my best mixing and production, though sometimes the guitars sound a little dull because I was being too cautious. The song 'Downright Birthright' is in 11/4. It was a little tricky to play properly because where you begin counting it is somewhat ambiguous. I also think this would have been a very effective track at setting the scene for the album if I didn't stray so far from my initial visions. 'Truthsellers' was originally in some minor key, but a mistake I made while recording it made it sound major, so I just committed to it. I ended up calling back to the chord progression and shaker samples from 'Séance' later on, near the end of the track 'Life Is Relative'. 'The Scrutiniser' is very inspired by the track 'The Seer' by Swans. Even though I am happy with how this song turned out considering it's 22 minute runtime, I still regret making some parts of it drag on as much as they do. The closing two minutes of the track 'No Place for the Cynical' were very fun to make, and I think it stands as one of my best pieces of music. The rest of the song turned out a little weird though, with the Luigi's Mansion type beat part of the way through. I think that the droning passage of 'Life Is Relative' is also one of my best pieces of music. The first C note at the start of the track is meant to follow on from the previous track. However, I made this track before 'No Place for the Cynical', so I had to make the ending of that track with this track in mind. 'Immolator' is was somewhat inspired by the Swans track 'Frankie M'. I think that the ambient sections of this track are a little weak, but the middle and end of the song were a lot of fun to make. I couldn't get the arpeggio at the beginning of 'Blood-Red Room' to sound entirely right. I think it's rushing by a beat, but I don't know why that makes it sound so off since I think it is still on-beat. I thought it would be funny to name the closing track just 'David', but I also wanted to call it 'Doubletruth' to fit the themes of the album. Hence the name. Tracklist: 00:00 - Downright Birthright 02:38 - Truthsellers 11:15 - Séance 12:54 - The Scrutiniser 34:39 - No Place for the Cynical 41:44 - Life Is Relative 49:38 - Immolator 01:04:35 - Blood-Red Room 01:18:47 - David Doubletruth
