History of Lacrosse: the “Creator’s Game” with John Hunter

For over 400 years, local Dakota, Ojibwe, and Ho-Chunk people have gathered on this land to play lacrosse. Though the rules, boundaries, and stick styles have evolved, lacrosse continues to serve as format for fun, celebration, socializing, and healing. Join us as historian John Hunter explores the meaning and significance of the “Creator’s Game.” John Hunter (Winnebago/White Earth Ojibwe) was raised in Minnesota and graduated from Stanford University. In 2014, he co-founded Twin Cities Native Lacrosse. For over twenty years, he has played and/or coached lacrosse at every level, as well as serving as an advocate and researcher for the sport. We gratefully acknowledge the support of Minnesota’s Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund for this event.
