Kara Zor-El, Kal-El's cousin, made her comic book debut in Action Comics #252 and has been a mainstay of DC Comics since 1959. According to Collider, “The film will be a part of the new DC Universe, taking place in Chapter 1, titled “Gods and Monsters.” Led by James Gunn (Guardians of the Galaxy) and Peter Safran (Aquaman), DC Studios will be resetting their franchises in a new direction that is heavily based on the comics that made the brand a household name in the first.” Superman: Legacy, which is set to release on July 11, 2025, will be the first film in this new universe. Though the DC Universe has not said anything about when 'Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow' will be released, James Gunn told 'Collider' earlier that two years after Superman, Supergirl will come out. As 'Superman: Legacy' is scheduled for release on July 11, 2025, 'Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow' should be released sometime in 2027.
