Sheep Farming: Cold Weather Farming!

Today at Ewetopia Farms, the cold weather weather affected our daily routines on the farm . With the cold comes the inherent problems with freezing, such as the water drinker freezing today in the Dorset lambing pen. As we did chores, we checked the pregnant ewes for udder development and feel that one breed will probably be having lambs before the other. We also had to put up the final light in the Dorset barn. Plus, we discuss why some lambs don't grow as well as others. We finish off the day by rounding up the lambs who still find great pleasure in exploring the barnyard farther and farther afield! Sheep and sheep farming is our passion and we hope that the love we have for what we do is obvious to you the viewers. Our operation is a large scale, registered Suffolk and Poll Dorset sheep farm combining the best of pasture and confinement to manage the flock for maximum comfort, minimal stress, and producing a consistent, very high quality product. Our focus is on providing breeding stock for sale to other sheep producers. All our sheep are treated with the utmost compassion which I think will become evident as you join us on our daily rounds on our working sheep farm in eastern Ontario, Canada.
