為配合觀塘市中心重建發展，土木工程拓展署於協和街及物華街交界建造行人連接系統，以加強觀塘市中心和毗鄰地區的連繫和通達性。行人連接系統不但提供一條便捷路徑來往附近的公共運輸交匯處、港鐵站外，亦連接觀塘社區健康中心大樓，方便長者和其他中心使用者。 工程團隊於設計行人連接系統時，參考了一個公開比賽勝出作品的意念，除滿足功能要求外，亦盡量保留項目範圍的樹木，充分將社區的綠化設計與居民的生活聯繫起來。行人連接系統的建造工程於2018年展開，並已於2021年11月開放予公眾使用。 To cope with Kwun Tong Town Centre Redevelopment, the Civil Engineering and Development Department constructed a pedestrian linkage system at junction of Hip Wo Street and Mut Wah Street, enhancing accessibility and connectivity between Kwun Tong Town Centre and surrounding neighbourhood. This system not only provides a convenient route for accessing the nearby Public Transport Interchange and MTR Station, but also connects the Kwun Tong Community Health Centre Building, bringing convenience to the elderly and other users of the building. When developing the design of this pedestrian linkage system, the project team took into account the concepts of the winning design from an open competition, managed to fulfil the functional requirements and conserved the trees within the project boundary. This fully embedded the greening design in the community.
