Have your friends and family been telling you to stand up straight lately? Are you hunching a lot? Well, it's never too late to improve your posture! Here are some of my favorite exercises: 1. Chin tucks: Let the head glide forward. Then pull the head back and "tuck" your chin in. This can be performed initially by beginners with no resistance. A resistance band can be used as you get stronger. Perform 3 sets of 15 reps. 2. Scapular retractions: Hold a resistance band attached to something solid. Have your arms straight and let your shoulders round forward. First, pull the shoulders back and retract your shoulder blades. Next, pull the elbows back and squeeze those posture muscles. Hold each rep for a 2 count. Perform 3 sets for 15 reps. 3. Chin tucks with Scapular retractions: Perform the above 2 exercises together to really begin to create a mind body connection with your posture muscles. 4. Scapular retractions (straight arms): Hold your arms out straight in front of you. Holding a resistance, pull your arms apart. Pull them apart as far as possible as you squeeze your shoulder blades together. Squeeze and hold each rep for 2 seconds. Perform 3 sets of 15 reps. 5. Chest Pumps: Push your chest up towards the ceiling and hold for 2 seconds. This will "open up" your rib cage and thoracic spine. Perform 3 sets of 10 reps.
