Walls to Welcome: จากกำแพงสู่โอกาส ในวันที่คนเคยกระทำผิดรุนแรงชดใช้บทลงโทษครบถ้วนแล้ว หากสังคมยังคงมีความคลางแคลงใจและความกลัวยังไม่จางหาย เมื่อสังคมต้องการความปลอดภัย แต่ก็ไม่ปิดกั้นโอกาสสำหรับผู้ที่เคยก้าวพลาด โครงการ Walls to Welcome จึงเกิดขึ้นจากแนวคิด JSOC (Justice Safety Observation Center) ที่สร้างสมดุลระหว่าง “การคุ้มครองสังคม” และ “การเคารพศักดิ์ศรีของผู้พ้นโทษ” เพราะแม้ว่าผู้พ้นโทษจะชดใช้ความผิดตามกฎหมายแล้ว แต่ความเชื่อมั่นของสังคมยังไม่กลับมา นักศึกษาสถาปัตยกรรมจากคณะสถาปัตยกรรมศาสตร์ มหาวิทยาลัยกรุงเทพ ได้รับโจทย์ให้คิดและออกแบบ “สถานคุมขังภายหลังพ้นโทษ” พื้นที่ที่ไม่ใช่เพียงกำแพงปิดกั้น แต่เป็นพื้นที่ของโอกาส พวกเขาได้เรียนรู้จากผู้เชี่ยวชาญด้านกฎหมาย จิตวิทยา นักออกแบบ และที่สำคัญที่สุด คือผู้พ้นโทษที่เคยผ่านประสบการณ์จริง นักศึกษาค้นพบว่า การฟื้นฟูต้องคำนึงถึงความต้องการที่หลากหลาย ทั้งการบำบัดจิตใจ การฝึกอาชีพ และการเรียนรู้การใช้ชีวิตในสังคม ขณะที่สังคมต้องการความปลอดภัยและความเชื่อมั่นว่า ผู้พ้นโทษจะไม่กระทำผิดซ้ำ นิทรรศการ Walls to Welcome นำเสนอผลงานออกแบบ 5 รูปแบบที่สะท้อนแนวคิดการฟื้นฟูที่หลากหลาย ได้แก่: 1. Area 13: Reimagined – พื้นที่ควบคุมความปลอดภัยในเรือนจำกลางคลองเปรม ที่เน้นการบำบัด ฟื้นฟู และเตรียมความพร้อมสู่สังคม 2. CBT คลองเปรม – สถานฟื้นฟูจิตเวชสำหรับผู้พ้นโทษ ที่โรงพยาบาลราชทัณฑ์ เน้นการดูแลจากทีมแพทย์ ครอบครัว และผู้เชี่ยวชาญ 3. คืนคนดีสู่สังคม – พื้นที่ฝึกอาชีพเกษตร ปศุสัตว์ ที่เขาไม้แก้ว ระยอง เชื่อมโยงกับธรรมชาติ ฟื้นฟูจิตใจผ่านการทำงาน 4. บ้านระยะผ่าน – พื้นที่ในชุมชนเมืองบางแพรก ที่ผู้พ้นโทษได้ฝึกใช้ชีวิตร่วมกับชุมชน เรียนรู้การควบคุมตนเอง 5. บ้านกึ่งวิถี ปูลา รายอ – ศูนย์ชุมชนประมงที่นราธิวาส สร้างการพึ่งพาตนเองและลดความหวาดระแวงผ่านการมีส่วนร่วมของชุมชน โครงการนี้ไม่ใช่แค่การออกแบบสิ่งสถาปัตยกรรม แต่เป็นการเรียนรู้ที่จะฟัง เข้าใจ และเห็นมุมมองของมนุษย์ที่ซับซ้อน นักศึกษาได้เรียนรู้ว่าการออกแบบไม่ใช่เพียงความสวยงาม แต่คือการสร้างพื้นที่ที่เปลี่ยนแปลงชีวิต สำหรับคณะสถาปัตยกรรมศาสตร์ มหาวิทยาลัยกรุงเทพ Walls to Welcome เป็นมากกว่าการสอนออกแบบ แต่เป็นพื้นที่แห่งการเรียนรู้ที่เชื่อมโยงกับโลกจริง เป็นการฝึกให้นักศึกษาใช้ความคิดสร้างสรรค์เพื่อแก้ปัญหาที่ซับซ้อน เข้าใจมนุษย์ และออกแบบเพื่อสร้างสังคมที่โอบรับทุกชีวิต ⸻ Walls to Welcome: From Walls to Opportunities In a world where those who committed serious crimes have served their sentences, doubts linger. Society seeks safety, but it also believes in second chances. Walls to Welcome was born from the concept of JSOC (Justice Safety Observation Center) — balancing “community protection” and “the dignity of former offenders.” Even after serving their punishment, former offenders face society’s silent judgment. Architecture students from the School of Architecture at Bangkok University were tasked with a challenge — to design “post-release rehabilitation facilities.” Not just walls of confinement, but spaces of opportunity. The students did not work alone. They collaborated with experts in law, psychology, design, and most importantly, former offenders who shared their lived experiences. This immersive learning revealed that former offenders have diverse needs — emotional healing, vocational training, and social reintegration — while society seeks safety and trust. The exhibition Walls to Welcome presents five design concepts, each offering a unique approach to rehabilitation: 1. Area 13: Reimagined – A secure, rehabilitative space within Klong Prem Central Prison, blending security with healing and preparation for reintegration. 2. CBT Klong Prem – A psychiatric rehabilitation center at the Correctional Hospital, providing compassionate care from medical professionals and families. 3. Return to Society – An agricultural training center in Rayong, where former offenders reconnect with nature and rebuild their lives. 4. Transitional Home – A community-based space in Bang Praek, where former offenders learn to coexist and take responsibility. 5. Halfway Home, Pula Raya – A fishing community center in Narathiwat, fostering self-reliance and reducing fear through active participation. These designs are not just architectural concepts. They are the result of a learning journey grounded in real-world challenges. The students learned not just to design buildings, but to listen, to understand, and to design spaces that can transform lives. For the School of Architecture at Bangkok University, Walls to Welcome is more than just an academic project. It is a bridge between classroom learning and the real world. It is where students develop creativity, solve complex problems, and understand the power of design to shape lives. Walls to Welcome is not just about designing spaces. It is about designing opportunities — the chance for those who have fallen to rise again, and for society to embrace change.
