Leaderboard: https://www.speedrun.com/sm3dw_bf/ful... This run improves my previous record of 1:24:36 by 5 seconds due to minor timesaves and getting an even higher Meowser skip on 8-X. The run however can still be improved as I have lost about 2-5 seconds on several levels and failed fast 6-4 and fast 8-7, so I will continue to lower this at least another 30 seconds. Q: What are the techniques being used to gain and maintain your speed? A: The techniques I use are roll jumping/cat scratching into crouch boosts, vectoring, and midair dives to gain height in some levels. Roll jumping or cat scratching can be used to gain extra momentum before doing crouch jumps. Crouch boosting involves crouching briefly before jumping again, this multiplies your speed by a bit and repeated use can net you extremely fast speeds. Vectoring involves curving at a slight angle in the air to gain small amounts of speed. Q: Why are you collecting the stars? A: The game requires 170 to enter the final level. Other requirements include 130 stars for 7-Castle and 80 for 5-3. Q: Why are you switching and then choosing your player each level? A: This trick saves around 3 seconds each level because if you don't do it the game waits that period. Q: What are the advantages of using certain characters for certain levels? A: Luigi can jump higher than any other character, and he is the most slippery which allows good crouch jumps and vectors. He is present for most of the run. Peach has an advantage of a float ability so she can make bigger cuts on a few levels. Toad is used for levels that don't require large amounts of extensive platforming, his jump is the smallest but he runs and cat scratches the fastest. Mario is a balanced character and therefore is useless in this run. Rosalina's spin jump technique can be used for several levels as well, but she isn't unlocked until after the game is beaten. Q: How did you get past the autoscrollers? A: It involves playing through the section without seeing and then hitting certain triggers which advance the autoscroller. For 6-7, it isn't extremely difficult but you can sometime die doing it. In 8-Castle, its easier because you just climb up the clouds on the left side, using audio cues to know when you landed on a cloud. Q: Why do you avoid a 1, 3, or 6 on the timer A: These times give you fireworks, which wastes a couple of second so it's better to avoid them.
