EMI Webinar #2 part 1 - An overview of themes and research methods in EMI

This webinar took place on Thursday, 16 January 2025, from 12:00 to 13:00 (CET). The webinar overviewed existing themes and methodology in English as a Medium of Instruction (EMI) research and showcase a mixed-methods doctoral research study on the challenges and opportunities of introducing EMI in post-colonial, multilingual settings. Participants reviewed up-to-date research literature and methodology in EMI. They also learned how mixed-methods research design can be applied in multilingual EMI settings and reflect on the strategic use of translanguaging as a pedagogical tool in multilingual education. Dr Yulia Kharchenko is an assistant professor in applied linguistics and English (TESOL & EMI) at the School of Modern Languages, Literatures and Cultures at Maynooth University. Her research focuses on EMI educator beliefs and practices, multilingual pedagogy, and sustainable language teacher education. She is a co-convenor of the Arqus University Alliance community of practice centred around English as a medium of instruction in higher education. Yulia previously worked with the EMI centre at Macquarie University, Sydney, a world-first that focuses exclusively on English as a Medium of Instruction and its associated practices. 📲 Follow us on social media to stay up to date: Instagram:   / arqusalliance   Facebook:   / arqusalliance   LinkedIn:   / arqusalliance   Twitter: https://x.com/ArqusAlliance 🌐 For more information about this webinar, visit our website: https://arqus-alliance.eu/event/arqus... 📬 Don’t miss anything – subscribe to our newsletter: https://arqus-alliance.eu/newsletter_/ #EMI #ResearchMethods #Research #EnglishTeaching
