So often, we hear that we should "follow our dreams," "shoot for the stars," and create big goals. But how do we actually accomplish that? We know we need to do something, but we might not know where to begin. Not to mention there's so much pressure to have it all figured out, when there's so much about the future that is simply unknown. So rather than standing here frozen in fear, how do we get started and take action? By embracing the power of prototyping. In the world of design thinking and life design, prototypes are simply opportunities to try something out, test an idea, or explore a curiosity - with the goal to "maximize learning for minimum investment" (Designing Your Life, Stanford University). If it works out well - great! Keep going and focus on the next step. If it's a disaster, then learn from the experience, adjust as needed, and thank yourself for figuring it out sooner than later. So what's one small action YOU can take today to move you one step closer to YOUR goals? Adrienne Ausdenmoore joined the BGSU community in January 2022, and serves as the Executive Director of the Geoffrey H. Radbill Center for College and Life Design. Prior to this role, Adrienne served as the Director of the Institute of Applied Creativity for Transformation (IACT) at the University of Dayton. Adrienne is part of the global community of “life designers” that originated at Stanford University. She has been teaching life design since 2017, and serves as an advisor and coach for Stanford’s Life Design Studio for University Educators. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
