Show notes: There are different ways of looking at plot. It's important to know how to work out the stratifies that are the plot. If you look for the power factors in your story, those elements the play a part in how your story plays out, you can make flexible choices about what shape your story will take. This is how to work with the inner logic of your story. The powers that be are all the story elements that push and pull on all the other power elements in the story. They can be environmental factors like a burning house of a late train. They can be the strengths, talents, handicaps and personality traits of your characters. Instead of having two characters struggling to win have their power factors struggling to win. To write better dialog, realize that in every human interaction there are power factors involved.
