Chinese Man Captures Adelie Penguins on Camera in Antarctica

A number of penguins were caught on camera by a Chinese working with scientists at the Zhongshan Scientific Research Station in Antarctica. Biologists say, these are Adelie penguins – dwarf and fat, these are the most widely seen residents in Antarctica. Adult Adelie penguins are 70 to 80 meters tall, weighing four to six kilograms. Their life span can be 25 years. Adelie penguins are monogamous. A couple is hardly separated unless one is dead or accidents happen. The Adelie penguins usually lay eggs from late October to early November each year. The rate of survival of the nestling is 50 percent as they are sensitive to chill and are usually bitten by gulls and seals. There are 2.5 million pairs of penguins in Antarctica.
